Volunteers are needed before, during, and after the race to put on the Triathlon. This is a great way for students to earn service hours. If you are interested please email Dan Merenick at email@example.com.
Below are descriptions of the volunteer needs.
The Reston Kids Triathlon can only be a success with many community volunteers. Volunteers are needed for many different areas and roles as described below. More information on the signup process is coming soon.
Race Set Up:
Help set up the race, put up signs, tents, cones.
Food and Water:
Help serve food and coffee to volunteers at check-in and food and water to participants at the finish line.
Assist swimmers with swim caps or goggles if needed, keep swimmers organized on pool deck in bib order for start, ensure they exit to the transition area after their swim, cheer and help make a fun and positive atmosphere.
Course Marshals (Bike):
Cheer and encourage the kids as well as instruct them regarding upcoming turns, hills or speed bumps. Course marshals will hold cars coming out of or going into neighborhood streets only - not traffic direction.
Course Marshals (Run):
Cheer and encourage the kids as well as instruct them regarding upcoming turns, hills or speed bumps. Course marshals will hold cars coming out of or going into neighborhood streets only - not traffic direction. Pass water to participants.
Assist with kids finding their bikes after the swim and parking their bikes after the ride (racks are numbered), making sure helmets are fastened before riding, keeping parents and spectators out and giving general instructions and encouragement.
Maintain security of finish line area as kids may only be released to the parent/guardian with a matching wristband. Congratulating finishers and handing out medals. Help out with organizing participants for photographs of age groups.
Race Clean Up:
Help with race clean up.
